A mid-term workshop for the 7th EIG CONCERT-Japan call on ICT for Resilient, Safe and Secure Society was organized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) online on June 1, 2022.
The workshop was chaired by Dr. Yuzuru Tanaka, Program Officer at JST, and moderated by the EIG CONCERT-Japan Program Secretary, Ms. Lea Debraux. Opening remarks were given by the original chair of the Scientific Committee of the call, Dr. Ivonne Hererra, of the Research Council of Norway (RCN). In total, more than 50 project researchers, Scientific Committee members and funding agency officers participated in the workshop.
The workshop presented an opportunity for the researchers to give presentations on the progress of their research, as well as key goals and challenges. The six research teams presented their work and answered questions from other participants for about 20 minutes per team.
The workshop featured lively discussions between the participants, inspiring some of the teams to explore the possibility of future collaborations between them. Many ideas, articles, contact information and advice were exchanged. The Scientific Committee members emphasized that researchers should strive to strengthen cooperation between the projects as some of the topics are highly similar and complementary in nature, yielding potential synergy effects. Comments were also made on the possibility of planned visits during the summer to strengthen cooperation between Japanese and European researchers.
Dr. Herrera, as President of the NGO global network Resilience Engineering Association, also invited the research teams to join a symposium she is organizing in June 2023 in southern France as an opportunity to meet and exchange in person.
